Overview
This course is for beginners (who have never used a sewing machine before) and for intermediate level (those with some experience but still learning). This course can be done independently or is a perfect next step after one of the 'Intro to Sewing' workshops (Next date Sunday September 29th).
One week of the course is dedicated to learning how to do basic alterations (taking up jeans and trousers). For the other 8 weeks, we will work on a series of beginner and intermediate home accessories including a zipped cushion cover, an envelope cushion cover with your own bias tape piping, and a bolster cushion.
The items selected for the course have been chosen to give you a wide range of techniques, closures, and finishes; therefore leaving you with as many new skills as possible. Something new in this course is that for one project you will cut your own fabric and with each item, we will discuss the pattern and calculations; giving you the ability to create everything you make at home to your own measurements.
By the end of this short course, you will know how to set up a sewing machine, thread the needle and bobbin, read and use a pattern, insert a zip, create your own bias tape and piping, cut fabric, and make small pattern adjustments.
You will leave the course confident on a sewing machine and ready to tackle a pattern at home.
