Overview
*This course runs for 9 weeks. Payment is taken in 4 monthly installments starting from when you book.
This course is for the beginner level and for what we call Level 1, which is for students who have attended one of the previous courses or camps and have used a sewing machine before.
In this course, students' main project will be a denim smock dress (photos show a 'toile' which is a sample made in basic cotton), this dress has been designed so that it is suitable for beginners and level 1; this is the biggest project we have tackled so far in our term classes but I know the steps are easy to follow and the students will enjoy it. This beautiful casual dress is a relaxed fit and will be made from medium-weight denim.
The wonderful thing about long-term courses like this is that students have the opportunity to learn about the craft in far greater detail. We will cover many topics in the course, including fabric selection, understanding, and reading patterns (from our in-house studio), cutting patterns, and basic garment construction. This dress also includes new techniques such as using bias binding and inserting a sleeve!
At Creative Assemble we are also committed to students learning more about the creative world and how artists and designers work, we believe this can help children and how they develop ideas. Each week students we will do ‘Creating Learning’ we take 5 mins to learn about a new topic which can range from ‘How to become a fashion designer?’ to ‘What is abstract art?’.
What will my child learn?

This was such an excellent course, Sarah absolutely loved it. I'm amazed at the beautiful projects they completed. I'd highly recommend this to any child (prob 9+) who enjoys art and crafts! Thanks again for facilitating, we hope to rejoin a new term!"
