HELLO

Nice to meet you

Creative Assemble is the brainchild of Mia O’Connell. I originally established The Fashion School in 2009, one of Ireland's first schools of fashion for children that taught in Dublin, Cork and Limerick.

Having then moved to London to continue a career in marketing and branding for fashion and footwear brands, I have now come back to a business that has been a passion of mine for so long.

My intention is simple, I want to create beautiful spaces for people of all ages to explore and experience creative flow through different forms of art and design, starting with Fashion.

 Flow-style Teaching

Sounds great, but what is flow?

Flow is a state of optimal engagement, where one's skills match the challenge at hand, resulting in full immersion and heightened enjoyment. Some say it's like "being in the zone". Take making a canvas tote bag from scratch as an example, you need the skills to do it in order to be able to immerse yourself in the task and experience flow. If you didn't have the right skills you might feel frustrated or discouraged.

Experiencing flow not only boosts confidence but also generates positive emotions in both children and adults. Our aim is to foster an environment where our students' abilities align with their activities, in an effort to facilitate the experience of flow.

Creating Consciously

Modern life can often mean moving faster and having more.  At Creative Assemble our intention is to create designs whilst being mindful of how we create them, what we make them with and how we can care for them.

So, what does that mean in practice? Firstly, the linings of all our in-house patterns have been designed to be cut from shirts that cannot be sold, meaning we are hopefully saving them from landfill. We keep a small selection of 100% cotton fabrics that are sustainably produced and students will work with toile fabrics before cutting into more expensive fabrics with the hope that we create an understanding of the luxury of new and high quality fabric. In addition to our regular courses we will be running mending and upcycling courses and with all items we will discuss how to care for them to ensure longevity.

Building lifelong skills

We believe that creativity is not just for artists, but a vital component of a fulfilling life. Our courses go beyond teaching specific skills and techniques, instead, we aim to provide our students with a toolbox of creative processes that they can apply to all aspects of their lives.

By exploring different approaches that artists and designers use to generating idea and problem-solve, our students not only improve their creative output but also enhance their ability to innovate and think outside the box. Our focus is on building lifelong skills that will serve our students well in any field they choose to pursue.
