Beginners Homewares Workshop Overview
There’s something special about being able to make things for your home, and to make changes to it, knowing that you and your family will use them every day. In this full-day workshop, we’ll take you from threading the machine to finishing beautiful homeware pieces you’ll use for years.
This workshop suits complete beginners, and also anyone who has used a sewing machine before and wants to build confidence on some satisfying beginner projects. You’ll work at your own pace in a relaxed, friendly setting, with plenty of time to practise.
You can choose from three projects, or do all three if you have time. All three will be available to you throughout the day:
The classic napkin, where you’ll master the mitered corner: a clean 45-degree corner that removes excess fabric for a crisp, professional finish. This technique is used for tables cloths and runners so will allow you to experiment.
The ruffle napkin, a softer, playful take on the classic
The envelope cushion cover, a simple, stylish cover with no zips required
What’s included
On the day, I’ll provide a basic cotton calico, a cream-coloured fabric made for testing out sewing projects. It’s the best way to focus on learning the sewing techniques without worrying about cutting into a lovely or expensive fabric.
During the workshop we also have a delicious and relaxing coffee/tea and scone break, we usually sit, chat and take a nice break from the sewing!
If you have a fabric at home you’d like to use, please bring it along and we can look at it together on the day. The same goes for a tablecloth you’d like to cut up into napkins. I strongly recommend that anything you bring is cotton or linen-based, anything other than that we may not be able to use. You want a fabric that doesn’t slip, doesn’t fray and is easy to work with, so you have a really good experience and can focus on learning the skills of sewing.
If you would like to bring your own sewing machine please let us know at hello@creativeassemble.com

Nice things people are saying...
"I spent a lovely afternoon with Mia of Creative Assemble, learning how to use a sewing machine and creating a tote bag which I am very proud of. Mia created a warm environment and allowed everyone to work at their own pace. I would definitely recommend Mia and hope to do an advanced class in the future."
