Sewing Workshop Overview
 
This two-day workshop takes place across two Sundays in September and is the perfect next step for anyone ready to move beyond beginner sewing projects or is looking for a next step after our Beginners Intro to Sewing Workshop.
 
Over the two days, you will create either a top or a pair of shorts, with a selection of beautiful patterns available to choose from on the day to suit people's styles. Sizing will be from size 8 to 18.
 
This workshop is ideal for people who already know the basics of using a sewing machine, such as sewing cushions, tote bags, or simple projects and are now ready to take the next step into garment construction and understanding patterns. By the end of the workshop, you will leave with your very first handmade garment and the confidence to begin working independently at home.
 
Both days will be the usual relaxed environment I like to create, along with a scone, tea, and coffee break halfway through each class.
 
What you’ll learn
How to read and understand a sewing pattern
How to cut fabric using a pattern
How to assemble and construct a garment
Sleeve construction and simple alterations
Neckline techniques
Hemming techniques
Finishing seams using overlocking methods on a home sewing machine
Tips for achieving a professional finish
How to make small amendments to patterns (adding and removing length)
 
What’s included
Everything except the fabric. As this is a garment, we think it is best for students to bring their own fabric along. I would suggest a light to medium-weight cotton or linen.  All other trims and equipment are provided.
